Social media presence and verificationWhat it checks and how to fix it
What it checks
Looks at the page's links for profiles on social platforms (Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, GitHub, Mastodon, Bluesky and others), and also notes rel="me" links, sharing widgets and platform verification meta tags. It passes when at least one profile link or verification tag is found, reporting three or more platforms as a strong presence, and warns when there are none.
Why it matters
Links to your social profiles let visitors follow you and check that the company is real and active. They also help search engines and AI assistants connect your website to your profiles as one entity, which feeds knowledge panels and makes it harder for an impostor account to pass as yours.
How to fix it
Link to your official profiles, usually in the footer, and mark them with rel="me" so platforms that support it (Mastodon, GitHub, IndieWeb) can verify the link both ways:
<footer>
<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/example" rel="me noopener" target="_blank">LinkedIn</a>
<a href="https://github.com/example" rel="me noopener" target="_blank">GitHub</a>
<a href="https://bsky.app/profile/example.com" rel="me noopener" target="_blank">Bluesky</a>
</footer>
Then list the same profiles in your Organization structured data:
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Organization",
"name": "Example Inc",
"url": "https://example.com",
"sameAs": [
"https://www.linkedin.com/company/example",
"https://github.com/example"
]
}
</script>
