App and cross-platform integrationWhat it checks and how to fix it
What it checks
Looks for signs that the site connects to a mobile app: an Apple Smart App Banner, al:ios / al:android App Links meta tags, App Store or Google Play links, an apple-app-site-association or assetlinks.json file under /.well-known/, and deep links. It passes when any are found, and reports three or more as strong integration; a site with none is skipped, since not every site has an app.
Why it matters
If you have a mobile app, visitors on phones should be able to find it and open it from your site. Without universal links and app-links files, a link to your site opens the browser even when the app is installed. Without a Smart App Banner or store links, mobile visitors never learn the app exists, and you lose installs you already paid to attract.
How to fix it
Only relevant if you publish an iOS or Android app.
Show the iOS Smart App Banner:
<meta name="apple-itunes-app" content="app-id=123456789, app-argument=https://example.com/current/page">
Let iOS open your links in the app (Universal Links) by serving /.well-known/apple-app-site-association as JSON, without a redirect:
{
"applinks": {
"details": [{ "appIDs": ["TEAMID.com.example.app"], "components": [{ "/": "/*" }] }]
}
}
And Android App Links with /.well-known/assetlinks.json:
[{
"relation": ["delegate_permission/common.handle_all_urls"],
"target": {
"namespace": "android_app",
"package_name": "com.example.app",
"sha256_cert_fingerprints": ["AA:BB:..."]
}
}]
Finally, link to your App Store and Google Play listings from the footer or download page.
